Cellulite Reduction – Mesotherapy
What it is and What Happens During the Procedure?
Mesotherapy is a series of injections formulated of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and homeopathic remedies which are injected into the skin between the dermis and subcutaneous layers of skin known as the mesoderm. It targets the superficial layers of skin to promote the body’s circulatory, lymphatic and immune system and, in turn, reduce the appearance of cellulite. A strong local anaesthetic cream is used to minimise discomfort, along with cold ice compresses.
Who is a Suitable Candidate for Mesotherapy?
Most healthy adults ages 18 to 80 may have Mesotherapy for body sculpting, cellulite treatment and skin rejuvenation. However, each patient must be individually assessed to determine whether or not Mesotherapy is the best form of treatment to achieve the results they seek.
Is Mesotherapy Safe?
This procedure has been performed safely around the world since the 1950s, and has become increasingly popular today.
Contraindications to Mesotherapy
Pregnancy, patients who are on blood thinners, insulin dependent diabetics, patients with cancer or in remission, patients with AIDS, history of coronary artery heart disease, arrhythmia’s, blood clots, stroke, any autoimmune disease, organ transplant recipients, skin conditions, herpes and psoriasis.
What Areas of the Body Can be Treated With Mesotherapy?
Love handles, stomach, saddle bags, bra bulge, inner thigh bulge, buttocks, abdomen, knee pads, double chin, face and neck, arms, back, legs and waist.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is localised fat that appears as dimpling on the thighs, bottom, legs and arms. It affects the majority of women over the age of 30, and being overweight is not a cause. In fact, many people with cellulite are slim and exercise regularly. Cellulite is due to a combination of poor micro-circulation close to the skin’s surface, fat hibernation’s, and abnormal connective tissue.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Each session takes 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated. You will require 6-12 sessions, 2-4 weeks apart, for best results.
How Fast Will a Patient See Results?
The speed of results depends on the area treated and the extent of the problem. Fat pads of the eye will usually show visible improvement after the first 1- 2 treatments. Cellulite and fat should show visible improvement after 3 – 4 treatments. MesoLift procedures show visible results within 1 – 2 days after the first treatment.
Will the Results Last?
It must not be forgotten that the effect of most procedures, although long-lasting, does fade with time. Therefore it’s wise to have maintenance treatments at the rate of approximately one session every two (2) to three (3) months. For the results gained from localized fat removal to be permanent requires the patient maintains their weight. A regular exercise regime, including cardio and resistance training and the implementation of a healthy diet, that places emphasis on lean protein and low G.I carbohydrates, will assist patients in maintaining results.
How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?
There is no down time or recovery time for this procedure. You may go back to regular
activities immediately. Most people experience some soreness, redness, slight bruising, swelling and itching, which will subside in 1-2 days, but time off work isn’t necessary. Bruising is common, but will generally disappear after a week and can usually be covered by clothing. A rare side effect of Mesotherapy is nodules under the skin – in the form of small, pea-like lumps. Usually only noticeable by touch, they are not serious and will dissolve in a few weeks or months.
Are the Treatments Painful?
The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort. For those who have discomfort, a topical anaesthetic cream can be utilized 45 minutes prior to the procedure. Ice can also be applied prior to or after the procedure if necessary.
How Long do the Results Last?
Mesotherapy has a long history of success and will work for everyone; however the results do vary from person to person. The results are long-lasting provided a regular good diet and exercise plan is adhered to.
